Sports in my next life!
December 28th, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

I’m reading the latest headlines and one GRABBED my attention. Normally I don’t really follow baseball any longer (afterall the Bluejays are not as competitive these days) but this one really stuck out: “Giants ink Zito to $126M deal”…

NEW YORK (AP) - Barry Zito and the San Francisco Giants reached a preliminary agreement on the largest contract for a pitcher in baseball history, a US$126-million, seven-year deal.

Can you imagine ever making that kind of cash? Begs the question though… where will they draw the line and say “are sports stars really worth that kind of cash?”.

And so it begins
December 27th, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

Christmas is now over and people are hitting the stores here in Canada for Boxing day/week sales (similar to after thanksgiving in the US). Supposedly there are many deals waiting for all that $$ you got from your grandparents for Christmas.

Did you know that Interac says it set a record with 31.2 million transactions processed December 22 and 23 - eclipsing last year’s record total by one million transactions (Canadian stats).

Would be interesting to know how many credit card transactions were made this holiday season. I guess we’re now programmed into going above our means just to get gifts for just about everyone we know at this time of the year. We must ask ourselves if it’s worth it. I mean… would we be less loved, less appreciated or less popular if we didn’t  rack up that credit card bill with purchases?

Now it begins… those of us who did spend on the Master Card or Visa now have to worry about paying it off before all the interest accumulates.

Have a great day.

Chris

Is anyone really reading?
December 18th, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

Do you get flyers/circulars delivered to your mail box with the latest specials and discounts offered by stores? For the past 3-4 weeks it seems that the normal 4-7 flyers that came once a week morphed into at least 8 lbs of paper two times weekly now! Do we really need that much flyers? Does the marketing team really think people are going through all 20 of the mini-magazines that were once 2 page ads?

….and we’re being asked to help conserve the environment. Why not tax these stores that find it necessary to waste so much paper, ink and energy… maybe then they’ll think twice before producing so many printed ads.

Yea it’s Monday and that was my pet peeve.

Staying focused during this busy holiday season.
December 13th, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

Here are 4 tips to help you stay more focused…. it’s Work From Home Wednesday!

Having well defined goals. I can’t stress the importance of this too much. Having goals which are well defined along good guidelines is key. I’ve found writing my goals down really helps. Whenever I get distracted, I read my goals and I’m reminded of what I am trying to do and why.

Breaking things into bite sized chunks. Having broad high level goals are good but having an actionable plan is essential. A plan can identify how you can get from where you are to where you want go. Breaking goals into smaller actionable chunks (tasks) is great - it gives me motivation to start and allows me to get things done in one sitting.

Prioritising constantly. To figure out which task I should be working on, I prioritise constantly. Some tasks are more important than others. Some tasks are more urgent than others. I’ve found that working on urgent tasks followed by tasks which have the greatest impact to work well for me - urgent tasks allow me to get things done on time and important tasks allow me to maximise the benefits I receive.
Having positive patterns in my routine. I’ve found having good habits and positive patterns to be instrumental. At the moment, I can consistently get more done. As these patterns continue to establish into a routine, I’m finding that I can better judge the periods of the day in which I really need to focus and work.
