Here’s my pet peeve for this bitterly cold Monday. How do people move to a country, live in said country for a number of years and never learn the language? There should be some agreement that if you immigrate to a new country that you must attend language lessons for the language used in this new country you’ll be calling home.
I know for a fact that we have ESL classes here in Hamilton and I’m sure it is the same for the rest of the country.
Is this asking too freaking much?
Imagine working in a hospital where about 75% of all your patients hardly speak any English (some NONE at all). How are you supposed to help them? Hand gestures can only take you so far. Yea they (the patients) gets frustrated, angry and sometimes physical. Who’s fault is it that you never learned to speak English?
And don’t tell me that a new immigrant is too busy trying to find work to survive that they don’t have the time to go to the ESL classes… I’ll never buy that load of Crap.
