I’m still getting hammered with tons of spam comments on a daily basis on this and the other blogs I author. But it’s being controlled by the aksimet. This is a must-have widget for all blogs. I’ve also noticed that my email’s inbox is not as crowded as it used to be, with all the amazing products and drugs to get my “member” bigger, last longer, free membership to “mooshoo” sites… nasty old SPAM! Someone, somewhere seems to be ambuhsing the spam before it gets to me and directing it to where it belongs in the sewer. I recall days when I would get 1000’s of spam a day and that’s just one email account.
Life is much better now without the same flow of Spam. However, I’ve noticed that my mail box (the one with the paper letters and stamps) is packed with junk on a daily basis. I’m talking postcard style, full color ads! After I first made this observation a couple weeks ago I decided I’d keep count of how much I got in the 2-3 week period.
Here is a picture I took moments ago:
That pile you see above contains 47 pieces of junk mail collected in the 2-3 weeks. And from that 47 pieces, there are 6 envelopes packed with at least 12 smaller pieces of ads, each.
- how much money are companies spending on these ads?
- my guess is only 15% of them have any sort of tracking (coupon, specific url or phone number) on them. Do they not care about knowing if their ads are working? Here is what I mean. If you were to print 20,000 color flyers, pay for them to be delivered with your ad to private homes. It contained a beautiful picture of your product and and the address of your store, with hours of operation. So you get your product in people faces and they know where your store is. The question, how many people who saw this ad came to your store? How many people made a purchase? How do you know if this campaign was successful?
All they had to do was add a little line of text… “bring this flyer/ad with you when you visit us and you’ll get (discount, free coffee, private tour of of store… anything to force them to bring in the ad). This way you’ll be able to track the results of your marketing campaign. Unless this is not important??
BTW, with all the earth friendly rules we are now adapting… are these marketers being charged a fee for all this paper product and the resulting rubbish it creates?
