Move over Pepsi and Coke, I want a Jelly Doughnut pop (soda).
November 14th, 2007 by Chris De La Rosa

How many of you tried Jones’ Thanksgiving-themed soda packs last year… with Green Pea, Sweet Potato, Dinner Roll, Turkey and Gravy, and Antacid sodas? I can confess that they were never introduced to my taste buds and probably never will. I heard on the radio this morning that they were launching a couple new themed packs in time for the holiday season, this Sunday.

The Christmas pack will feature such flavors as Sugar Plum, Christmas Tree, Egg Nog and Christmas Ham. The Hanukkah pack will have Jelly Doughnut, Apple Sauce, Chocolate Coins and Latkes sodas.

“As always, both packs are kosher and contain zero caffeine,” Jones said in a statement.

BTW, a portion of the proceeds is going to charity.

I wonder if there will ever be an up-chuck flavor?

Like chickens to corn.
November 23rd, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

We were down in Buffalo NY a couple days ago to do some shopping (take advantage of the strong Canadian dollar and good American prices) and I saw something that took me back to my childhood.

We had a country home when I was growing up in Trinidad, which meant that we also have several ducks and chickens. At one point we even have a couple pigs and goats.  Let’s just say that we liked his meat natural :)

We used to share chores around the house since my dad worked in construction and my mom had her own business so we all basically chipped in. One of the things I was responsible for was feeding the chickens. Have you ever fed chickens? There I would be with the corn (you’ve never had good chicken till you had corn fed) and as I tossed it on the ground the chickens would just swoop to it. There were times when they would even try to grab it out of my hands :)

Back to Buffalo… there we were in Tops (grocery store) and this worker was coming out of the back with a shopping cart full of turkeys to stock the freezer. Just like when I was a kid with our chickens… shoppers just flocked around the poor guy, grabbing up the frozen turkeys like corn. It was funny to see how these people went crazy for the turkeys. Must have been some sort of on-the-spot special price.

Have a Great Thanksgiving!

Chris..

p.s. we celebrated ours back in October in Canada.

Don’t forget to pack the antacid!

Hem your blessings with thankfulness so they don’t unravel.  Author Unknown

The north will be meeting the south today as we celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada. When you combine the normal fixings for a (north) Canadian Thanksgivng (Turkey, cranberry, stuffing etc) and you mix in some Caribbean (South) cusine you have the ingredients for some serious heartburn :(  Hey… but a what a tasty spread it’ll be.

As we gather with family and firends today, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and tasty Thanksgiving.

NOPE! I didn’t forget it’s Pet Peeve Monday!  Why do most people only cook turkey on Thanksgiving, Easter or Christmas? Is it law that you can’t  roast the BIG Bird any other time ? And what about the few of us who DON’T like turkey… can we not have a thanksgiving with some mouth-watering  prime rib?

Gotta go wake my girls…. it’s time to stick the “fowl” in the oven and the little cooks they are, they love to help out.

Have a great Thanksgiving Canada!
