For the past 8 years I’ve not filed a single income tax on time! This after they give us, small business owners extra time after the normal April 30th deadline. FYI for those of you in Canada…
Personal income tax returns, except for those of self-employed individuals, are due by April 30th, as is any amount owing. Penalties and interest may be charged for late returns or late payments.
Self-employed individuals have until June 15th to file their personal tax returns, but any amounts owing must still be paid by April 30th.
When the filing due date falls on a Saturday or Sunday or a public holiday, tax returns received by Canada Revenue Agency or postmarked by midnight on the next business day will be considered to have been filed on time. Many CRA offices stay open until midnight on the personal income tax return filing due date to accept returns.
NOT THIS YEAR! It’s my goal to have my taxes completed within the next 7 days even if I have to put everything else on hold as I go through my shoe-box filing system. I think that’s probably one of the reasons my taxes are always late (and the fact that I always have to pay), I don’t have anything in a spreadsheet or organized in any format. I totally dread having to go through a year’s worth of receipts, etc.
Don’t do like me in the previous years, get cracking on your taxes today so you don’t have to shell out money for penalties like me in the past.
