And so it begins
December 27th, 2006 by Chris De La Rosa

Christmas is now over and people are hitting the stores here in Canada for Boxing day/week sales (similar to after thanksgiving in the US). Supposedly there are many deals waiting for all that $$ you got from your grandparents for Christmas.

Did you know that Interac says it set a record with 31.2 million transactions processed December 22 and 23 - eclipsing last year’s record total by one million transactions (Canadian stats).

Would be interesting to know how many credit card transactions were made this holiday season. I guess we’re now programmed into going above our means just to get gifts for just about everyone we know at this time of the year. We must ask ourselves if it’s worth it. I mean… would we be less loved, less appreciated or less popular if we didn’t  rack up that credit card bill with purchases?

Now it begins… those of us who did spend on the Master Card or Visa now have to worry about paying it off before all the interest accumulates.

Have a great day.

Chris

Thanks for stopping by Yesterday’s Memories, Chris! I had written a post recently about our family’s lifestyle of living below our means. It has always taken the debt pressure off of our Christmas celebration, and for that I’m thankful. This year our grandson turned 13, and we had no idea what to get him at all. For the first time ever, all he got from us was money. He was delighted! I’m sure he’s been bugging his Mama and Daddy to take him shopping, so he can spend some of it. But at least he’s a young fellow with a plan. Much of it will be saved until the Spring, when he will use it for Greens Fees at the local golf course. That’s what he did with the money part of his presents last year, too. I’m proud of his parents for teaching him to use his money wisely, and proud of him, too!
